Our lives are never-ending journeys. According to Louise Erhard artist, they are paths of personal growth and self-excavation. While exploring her own journey, she wishes to provoke a sense of fondness for it.
She hopes to implore a more optimistic approach towards life. Through her art, she creates visual depictions of the human condition. Ultimately, her work reflects our everyday triumphs and tribulations.
Vintage Imagery and Analog Techniques
Growing up in the home of an antique dealer, Louise learned a valuable lesson. She was taught to give new value to old, discarded things. Consequently, she loves pulling from beautiful vintage images to create her own work.
Notably, Louise Erhard artist does not work digitally. Everything she does is by hand. She references personal experiences while tangibly reassembling imagery. By using found vintage magazines, she creates new collages that serve as a visual diary for all to divulge.
Exploring Interpersonal Relationships
This body of work explores specific dynamics. It examines Louise’s interpersonal relationships and the role of the ego. Specifically, she looks at how misperceptions have affected a variety of relationships from her past.
Her creation of space and place is executed through collage. Beginning with a clean board, Louise layers mixed media from everyday publications. These pieces are cut and pasted from posed advertising imagery.
Constructing Meaning
She also incorporates the discarded decorative elements from our collective pasts. Her use of common architectural elements is intentional. It creates visual representations of the everyday struggle with one’s ego.
Furthermore, it symbolizes the desire to rise above that struggle. Through nostalgia and wonderment, Louise Erhard artist invites us to view our own memories with a positive sensation.
