SUMMARY:Subtropic Film Festival 2026
DESCRIPTION:Art of the Times is pleased to share information about Subtropic Film Festival 2026 with our readers. \nEvent information supplied via the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County. \nAbout this event\nFrom Nov. 6 to 8 we’re taking over West Palm Beach and Lake Worth Beach. It’s our fourth year at the Norton Museum of Art and we’re back at Afflux Studios at G-Star. For the first time\, we’re also spilling into Lake Worth Beach\, with screenings at the Lake Worth Playhouse and events around town. The program packs in SIX features\, more than a dozen shorts blocks\, a two-part Kodak film camera workshop\, an industry panel\, a street photo walk\, live performance\, and multi-venue parties we’re already excited about. \nFriday night we open at the Norton with Homegrown\, five films that dig into the Florida most people drive straight past: sacred ground\, buried history\, the water under our feet\, and whatever’s living just below the surface. \nSaturday runs all day and well into the night. The camera workshop kicks off at Afflux at 11:30 a.m.\, and shorts take over the screens there all afternoon. At 2 p.m. the Norton screens Frogtown\, which took Best Florida Feature and the Audience Award at the Florida Film Festival. Then we head to Lake Worth Beach for a photo walk and a filmmaker happy hour. After that come two features at the Lake Worth Playhouse: Patrick Bresnan’s First They Came For My College and William Means’ Junkie. The Junkie After Party hits Propaganda at 9:30 p.m.\, and nobody involved is planning to leave early. \nOn Sunday\, Afflux runs from 11:30 a.m. straight through to the Awards Ceremony and live editing session at 6:45 p.m. The day has seven shorts blocks and Kevin Contento’s The Moths and the Flame\, just off its Berlinale Forum premiere. It also has Tropical Park\, a Miami feature shot in one 85-minute take from the backseat of a car. At 2 p.m. the Norton screens Honeyjoon\, a mother-daughter story about grief and arguing your way back to each other\, with the galleries open to you afterward. \nGrab one film or grab the whole weekend. \nAdmission information\nTickets to opening night at the Norton Museum\, and to Saturday night at the Lake Worth Play House will be ticketed separately from festival passes. \nTickets are available for individual screenings \n$10-18 for individual screenings \n$20 day pass \n$30 weekend \nPlan your visit\nCity: West Palm BeachCounty: Palm Beach CountyVenue: Norton Museum of Art1450 S. SUMMARY:Behind The Lines: A 9/11 Story
DESCRIPTION:Art of the Times is pleased to share information about Behind The Lines: A 9/11 Story with our readers. \nEvent information supplied via the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County. \nAbout this event\nSponsored by The Carl Angus DeSantis Foundation\, Inc. \n9/11 drew a nation together and linked the lives of two men from different generations. Set against the tragedy of the attacks and the war that followed\, World Trade Center firefighter Bill Spade (sole survivor from FDNY Rescue Company 5) and combat veteran Jaymes Poling (three tours in Afghanistan) relive their experiences\, revealing an unexpected bond in strength\, meaning\, and the weight of what they continue to carry after service. \nPERFORMER BIO:Created by internationally acclaimed jazz musician Dominick Farinacci and combat veteran Jaymes Poling\, Behind the Lines: a 9/11 Story is a live story\, music\, and theatre performance set against the tragedy of the September 11 attacks and the war that followed. World Trade Center firefighter Bill Spade—the sole survivor from FDNY Rescue Company 5—and Poling\, a three-tour Afghanistan combat veteran with the 82nd Airborne Division\, relive their experiences and find an unexpected bond in strength\, meaning\, and the weight of what they continue to carry after service. \nFarinacci—described by The New York Times as “a trumpeter of abundant poise who plays beautifully\, with expressive control and brings true musicality”—brings an international career shaped by Juilliard\, Jazz at Lincoln Center\, a TED Talk\, and award-winning recordings\, alongside a deep commitment to music and mental well-being. Poling brings a hard-earned firsthand perspective and a powerful ability to translate lived experience into meaning and purpose onstage. Spade—featured on CBS Sunday Morning and the BBC—brings audiences inside the lived reality of that day and the aftermath\, sharing what he lived through with rare clarity\, courage\, and gravity. \nThe music serves as the internal voice of the piece—deepening the narrative and revealing the humanity beneath the events. Performed live by a full ensemble led by Farinacci\, the score spans original compositions alongside reimagined works by Leonard Cohen\, Gnarls Barkley\, Tom Waits\, and more\, heard through the emotional lens of the story. The production\, directed by Emmett Murphy (Cirque du Soleil\, Clint Holmes\, Modern Warrior)\, unfolds in a cinematic world where light\, image\, and space translate feeling into color. Inspired by synesthesia\, the multimedia and lighting design maps each shift in Bill and Jaymes’ psychological states\, creating an immersive environment that elevates both the storytelling and the music. \nBehind the Lines: a 9/11 Story is the latest production from Farinacci and Poling’s Modern Warrior\, a nationally recognized production that unites real stories\, live music\, and theatre to explore loss\, resilience\, and the unseen aftermath of life-changing experiences. Modern Warrior’s flagship production\, Modern Warrior LIVE\, has toured extensively throughout the U.S. Deeply integrated within veteran and mental health communities\, Modern Warrior has become a trusted cultural partner for organizations and leaders focused on resilience\, service\, and reintegration—bringing lived experience to the stage in a way that expands public understanding and reduces isolation. Modern Warrior is a National Endowment for the Arts grant recipient\, has been featured on NPR and Fox News\, presented at Amazon Headquarters\, opened for Brené Brown\, and earned praise from national leaders including two U.S. Secretaries of Veterans Affairs and General James Mattis\, who called the work a “necessary and worthy mission.” \nCreated by Dominick Farinacci & Jaymes PolingDirected by Emmett Murphy \nBAND MEMBERS:Dominick Farinacci (trumpet)Jaymes Poling (combat veteran)Bill Spade (World Trade Center Firefighter)Dominick has a contact who can connect with local organizations that link us with local veterans affairs and mental health groups to be present at events if attendees need assistance. \nAdmission information\n$44 (Including Fees) \nPlan your visit\nCity: Delray BeachCounty: Palm Beach CountyVenue: Arts Garage94 NE 2nd Ave\, Delray Beach FL 33444 \nView original event details \nMore arts and culture nearby\nExplore more Delray Beach events or browse the Palm Beach County arts and culture calendar with Art of the Times. \nSource: Cultural Council for Palm Beach County.
