SUMMARY:Visible Fictions: Photography and Artifice
DESCRIPTION:Art of the Times is pleased to share information about Visible Fictions: Photography and Artifice with our readers. \nEvent information supplied via the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County. \nAbout this event\nDrawn from the Collection\, Visible Fictions: Photography and Artifice challenges the idea that photography records reality impartially. Lee\, Cindy Sherman\, Laurie Simmons\, and others\, the exhibition explores how photographs shape\, rather than simply reflect\, the world around us. \nPlan your visit\nCity: West Palm BeachCounty: Palm Beach CountyVenue: Norton Museum of Art1450 S. SUMMARY:Exhibition | Interstitial
DESCRIPTION:Art of the Times is pleased to share information about Exhibition | Interstitial with our readers. \nEvent information supplied via the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County. \nAbout this event\nINTERSTITIAL showcases six second-year MFA candidates from Florida Atlantic University working across printmaking\, book arts\, photography\, painting\, performance\, and sculpture. FAU’s MFA program emphasizes this interdisciplinary development–conceptual\, aesthetic\, technical\, and professional- with this exhibition presenting work made during their first year (out of three) in the program. \n“Interstitial” refers to the small\, narrow gaps between things: cracks\, intervals of time; it is the interstices that occur between objects or time periods. Curator\, Sarah E. Huang\, borrowed this term because it names where the students find themselves at their midpoint within the program. And although they are almost halfway through\, exhibiting together now allows viewers to trace the threads of the artists’ distinct\, idiosyncratic practices\, which will (and have) only become clearer through our individual studio and parallel practices. \nAs Huang looked more closely at the works her colleagues produced over the last year\, she found that they share a similar preoccupation with “betweenness.” Meaning\, each artist represented is working to reconcile some sort of dichotomy: material and immaterial\, process and object\, inner life and outer life. INTERSTITIAL is ultimately a record of these reconciliations\, albeit in process. \nAdmission information\nFree Admission \nPlan your visit\nCity: Delray BeachCounty: Palm Beach CountyVenue: Arts Warehouse313 NE 3rd Street\, Delray Beach FL 33444 \nView original event details \nMore arts and culture nearby\nExplore more Delray Beach events or browse the Palm Beach County arts and culture calendar with Art of the Times. \nSource: Cultural Council for Palm Beach County. SUMMARY:Bagels Over Berlin: Honor\, Valor\, and the Jewish Airmen of WWII
DESCRIPTION:Art of the Times is pleased to share information about Bagels Over Berlin: Honor\, Valor\, and the Jewish Airmen of WWII with our readers. \nEvent information supplied via the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County. \nAbout this event\nIn the 1930s\, American Jews faced a dual threat: the rising tide of Nazism abroad and pervasive anti-Semitism and isolationism at home. Yet\, following the attack on Pearl Harbor\, they volunteered in record numbers to prove their patriotism and strike back against tyranny. This program features a screening of the acclaimed documentary Bagels Over Berlin\, followed by a discussion with the film’s director. Through powerful first-person accounts\, discover the stories of 15 Jewish airmen who defied the hateful stereotypes of the era to fly daylight bombing missions over Nazi Germany\, facing a staggering 70% mortality rate. Many of these brave veterans spent their later years as residents of Boca Raton\, making this a deeply local story of global significance. Join us to honor their voices and explore a gripping chapter of the "Greatest Generation" that is too often overlooked. A discussion will follow.
