SUMMARY:Behind The Lines: A 9/11 Story
DESCRIPTION:Art of the Times is pleased to share information about Behind The Lines: A 9/11 Story with our readers. \nEvent information supplied via the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County. \nAbout this event\nSponsored by The Carl Angus DeSantis Foundation\, Inc. \n9/11 drew a nation together and linked the lives of two men from different generations. Set against the tragedy of the attacks and the war that followed\, World Trade Center firefighter Bill Spade (sole survivor from FDNY Rescue Company 5) and combat veteran Jaymes Poling (three tours in Afghanistan) relive their experiences\, revealing an unexpected bond in strength\, meaning\, and the weight of what they continue to carry after service. \nPERFORMER BIO:Created by internationally acclaimed jazz musician Dominick Farinacci and combat veteran Jaymes Poling\, Behind the Lines: a 9/11 Story is a live story\, music\, and theatre performance set against the tragedy of the September 11 attacks and the war that followed. World Trade Center firefighter Bill Spade—the sole survivor from FDNY Rescue Company 5—and Poling\, a three-tour Afghanistan combat veteran with the 82nd Airborne Division\, relive their experiences and find an unexpected bond in strength\, meaning\, and the weight of what they continue to carry after service. \nFarinacci—described by The New York Times as “a trumpeter of abundant poise who plays beautifully\, with expressive control and brings true musicality”—brings an international career shaped by Juilliard\, Jazz at Lincoln Center\, a TED Talk\, and award-winning recordings\, alongside a deep commitment to music and mental well-being. Poling brings a hard-earned firsthand perspective and a powerful ability to translate lived experience into meaning and purpose onstage. Spade—featured on CBS Sunday Morning and the BBC—brings audiences inside the lived reality of that day and the aftermath\, sharing what he lived through with rare clarity\, courage\, and gravity. \nThe music serves as the internal voice of the piece—deepening the narrative and revealing the humanity beneath the events. Performed live by a full ensemble led by Farinacci\, the score spans original compositions alongside reimagined works by Leonard Cohen\, Gnarls Barkley\, Tom Waits\, and more\, heard through the emotional lens of the story. The production\, directed by Emmett Murphy (Cirque du Soleil\, Clint Holmes\, Modern Warrior)\, unfolds in a cinematic world where light\, image\, and space translate feeling into color. Inspired by synesthesia\, the multimedia and lighting design maps each shift in Bill and Jaymes’ psychological states\, creating an immersive environment that elevates both the storytelling and the music. \nBehind the Lines: a 9/11 Story is the latest production from Farinacci and Poling’s Modern Warrior\, a nationally recognized production that unites real stories\, live music\, and theatre to explore loss\, resilience\, and the unseen aftermath of life-changing experiences. Modern Warrior’s flagship production\, Modern Warrior LIVE\, has toured extensively throughout the U.S. Deeply integrated within veteran and mental health communities\, Modern Warrior has become a trusted cultural partner for organizations and leaders focused on resilience\, service\, and reintegration—bringing lived experience to the stage in a way that expands public understanding and reduces isolation. Modern Warrior is a National Endowment for the Arts grant recipient\, has been featured on NPR and Fox News\, presented at Amazon Headquarters\, opened for Brené Brown\, and earned praise from national leaders including two U.S. Secretaries of Veterans Affairs and General James Mattis\, who called the work a “necessary and worthy mission.” \nCreated by Dominick Farinacci & Jaymes PolingDirected by Emmett Murphy \nBAND MEMBERS:Dominick Farinacci (trumpet)Jaymes Poling (combat veteran)Bill Spade (World Trade Center Firefighter)Dominick has a contact who can connect with local organizations that link us with local veterans affairs and mental health groups to be present at events if attendees need assistance. \nAdmission information\n$44 (Including Fees) \nPlan your visit\nCity: Delray BeachCounty: Palm Beach CountyVenue: Arts Garage94 NE 2nd Ave\, Delray Beach FL 33444 \nView original event details \nMore arts and culture nearby\nExplore more Delray Beach events or browse the Palm Beach County arts and culture calendar with Art of the Times. \nSource: Cultural Council for Palm Beach County. SUMMARY:Exhibition | Interstitial
DESCRIPTION:Art of the Times is pleased to share information about Exhibition | Interstitial with our readers. \nEvent information supplied via the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County. \nAbout this event\nINTERSTITIAL showcases six second-year MFA candidates from Florida Atlantic University working across printmaking\, book arts\, photography\, painting\, performance\, and sculpture. FAU’s MFA program emphasizes this interdisciplinary development–conceptual\, aesthetic\, technical\, and professional- with this exhibition presenting work made during their first year (out of three) in the program. \n“Interstitial” refers to the small\, narrow gaps between things: cracks\, intervals of time; it is the interstices that occur between objects or time periods. Curator\, Sarah E. Huang\, borrowed this term because it names where the students find themselves at their midpoint within the program. And although they are almost halfway through\, exhibiting together now allows viewers to trace the threads of the artists’ distinct\, idiosyncratic practices\, which will (and have) only become clearer through our individual studio and parallel practices. \nAs Huang looked more closely at the works her colleagues produced over the last year\, she found that they share a similar preoccupation with “betweenness.” Meaning\, each artist represented is working to reconcile some sort of dichotomy: material and immaterial\, process and object\, inner life and outer life. INTERSTITIAL is ultimately a record of these reconciliations\, albeit in process. \nAdmission information\nFree Admission \nPlan your visit\nCity: Delray BeachCounty: Palm Beach CountyVenue: Arts Warehouse313 NE 3rd Street\, Delray Beach FL 33444 \nView original event details \nMore arts and culture nearby\nExplore more Delray Beach events or browse the Palm Beach County arts and culture calendar with Art of the Times.
\nSource: Cultural Council for Palm Beach County. An heir \nto the throne of bossa nova\, Soledade is highly acclaimed for her poignantly expressive vocal style and hyper-intimate aesthetic. Drawing from an amalgamation of \nauthentic bossa nova\, samba\, MPB\, and American Popular Song\, Soledade is the new sound of Bossa Nova. \nBorn and raised in Rio de Janeiro\, Soledade’s family roots are steeped in Bossa Nova’s inception. Her grandfather\, Paulo Soledade composed popular song with renowned Bossa Nova founders Antônio Carlos Jobim\, Vinicius de Moraes\, Toquinho\, Baden Powell\, Fernando Lobo\, and others. \nWith a deep love of music embedded in her DNA\, Soledade’s singing career began at a young age. Soledade says of her early musical influences\, “Music has been my driving force since as far as I can remember\, and continues to be my main passion and inspiration every single day.” \nIn 2019\, Soledade established herself as the new sound of Bossa Nova with the release of her debut album A Moment of You. Featuring songs in both English and Portuguese\, Downbeat Magazine praised the album as “a careful curation of compositions… each of them contributing the perfect nuanced sound\, intimacy\, harmonious melodies and poetic rhythms while injecting the music with much needed freshness.” \nA brilliant collaborator\, Soledade has worked with many well-known artists in Brazilian music. Boasting a robust online presence\, the vocalist regularly publishes thoughtfully curated content including a rigorous recording and video release schedule. During 2020 Soledade teamed up with guitarist and producer Nate Najar to livestream a weekly duo concert series \nentitled “Love & Bossa Nova.” Running for over a year\, the series was featured by JazzTimes hailing both Soledade’s “exquisite vocals” and Najar’s “masterful” guitar playing. \nAlongside the singer’s well-received live concert streams\, Soledade also enjoys success across multiple digital streaming platforms. \nSource: Cultural Council for Palm Beach County.
