SUMMARY:Seminar: PBD Dramawise: Provenance
DESCRIPTION:Art of the Times is pleased to share information about Seminar: PBD Dramawise: Provenance with our readers. \nEvent information supplied via the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County. \nAbout this event\nIn the early 1900s\, an artist paints a sensual and mysterious portrait of a young housekeeper. A German-Jewish collector purchases the painting\, but it is stolen by the Nazis while she flees for her life. The journey to recover the painting is a long\, mysterious journey of discovery by the stakeholders’ children and grandchildren. Provenance is a beautiful story by Jennifer Maisel of self-reflection and integrity. Gary Cadwallader leads an interactive classroom discussion about stolen art and the race against time to reunite Jewish families with their rightful legacy. Participants receive a copy of the play prior to class\, and a comprehensive\, informative PBD Dramaguide written specifically for this class. Participants leave with a deeper understanding of the play and its examination of justice and honor\, and the power of art. \nAdmission information\nNon-Member: $50.00Member: $40.00 \nPlan your visit\nCity: Boca RatonCounty: Palm Beach CountyVenue: Barry and Florence Friedberg Auditorium777 Glades Rd Building 31C\, Boca Raton FL 33431 \nView original event details \nMore arts and culture nearby\nExplore more Boca Raton events or browse the Palm Beach County arts and culture calendar with Art of the Times. \nSource: Cultural Council for Palm Beach County. SUMMARY:"Tobi Kahn: Quest for the Essence"
DESCRIPTION:Art of the Times is pleased to share information about "Tobi Kahn: Quest for the Essence" with our readers. \nEvent information supplied via the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County. \nAbout this event\nThe career of New York artist Tobi Kahn (b.1952) can be best defined by seeming opposites: consistency and change. The magic of his practice is that the two coexist\, not only complementing but also enhancing one another. Quest for the Essence\, organized by the Boca Raton Museum of Art\, illustrates how Kahn’s art embraces and refines this duality during a 40-year career. Anchored by two monumental Sky and Water installations – both prompting reflection\, encouraging us to slow down – Kahn’s paintings\, works on paper\, sculptures\, and ritual objects embody his quest for the essence of places\, people\, and things. \nWe recognize the human figure in nature and the landscape in the contours of bodies; places whose photographs always form the basis of paintings are transformed into abstractions; motion is at once arrested and encouraged. The defining quality is resisting realism\, refusing to offer an easy reading of what is depicted. Kahn once said that he loves it when someone comes up with an entirely new interpretation of one of his works: each of us seeing something completely different creating our own journey as we look\, and being enriched by the journey\, are his ultimate goals. \nKahn’s art has often been described in relation to spirituality\, specifically in relation to Judaism\, whose teachings and practices are integral to his life. Yet his vision embraces more than any one religion or belief system. The universality of Kahn’s art lies in its generous search for community and healing. His ZAHRYZ (Tzedek Box) gives shape to a contemporary Jewish ritual\, of writing down and preserving righteous deeds\, yet invites all of us to record and remember each time over the course of the year when we contribute to the world’s healing. It is one of many ritual objects Kahn has adapted or invented to reflect the practice of belief in the modern world\, and more generally\, our search for something holy. \nThe works in the exhibition were deliberately chosen to illustrate what has been most important to Kahn throughout his career: they are all from the artist’s collection. They were the works he would not sell\, that still adorn the walls of his studio in Long Island City and serve as context and inspiration for his journey. The exhibition\, in turn\, invites you to take your own journey in discovering the richness and healing power of Tobi Kahn’s art. \nAdmission information\nMembers: FREEAdults: $16.00Seniors (ages 65+): $12.00Groups: $10.00High School Students (under 18): FREEChildren (under 15): FREE \nPlan your visit\nCity: Boca RatonCounty: Palm Beach CountyVenue: Boca Raton Museum of Art501 Plaza Real\, Boca Raton FL 33432 \nView original event details \nMore arts and culture nearby\nExplore more Boca Raton events or browse the Palm Beach County arts and culture calendar with Art of the Times. \nSource: Cultural Council for Palm Beach County. SUMMARY:Joanna Castle Miller’s Bad Faith Trilogy
DESCRIPTION:Art of the Times is pleased to share information about Joanna Castle Miller’s Bad Faith Trilogy with our readers. \nEvent information supplied via the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County. \nAbout this event\nVIRGINIA and Joanna Castle Miller’s Bad Faith Trilogy \nWritten and performed by Joanna Castle Miller \nDirected by Matt Stabile \nDecember 20\, 2026 \nRaised within fundamentalist Christian nationalism\, Joanna was given a clear script for identity and acceptance. Joanna Castle Miller’s Bad Faith Trilogy traces the process of questioning\, dismantling\, and ultimately rewriting that script\, culminating in a life that stands in stark contrast to where it began. Performed by the playwright in rep\, this trilogy explores the lure of Christian Nationalism\, the punishment of women and girls\, and the playwright’s discovery of Judaism as a new way to understand the world. At a time of deepening divisions\, how can we challenge the cultural and ideological forces that shape our lives and attempt to contain us? And how can we help others find their own path to a freer\, more openhearted life? \nAfter producing the world premieres of two of her plays earlier this year\, we’re thrilled to welcome this incredible playwright/performer back to Theatre Lab to kick off our 26-27 MainStage season! Theatre Lab faithful will be the first audiences to enjoy the full trilogy\, in the order it is meant to be experienced\, before it lands on stages throughout the country (and beyond).
