Subtropic Film Festival 2026

November 8 11:00 am - 11:00 pm

Art of the Times is pleased to share information about Subtropic Film Festival 2026 with our readers.

Event information supplied via the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County.

About this event

From Nov. 6 to 8 we’re taking over West Palm Beach and Lake Worth Beach. It’s our fourth year at the Norton Museum of Art and we’re back at Afflux Studios at G-Star. For the first time, we’re also spilling into Lake Worth Beach, with screenings at the Lake Worth Playhouse and events around town. The program packs in SIX features, more than a dozen shorts blocks, a two-part Kodak film camera workshop, an industry panel, a street photo walk, live performance, and multi-venue parties we’re already excited about.

Friday night we open at the Norton with Homegrown, five films that dig into the Florida most people drive straight past: sacred ground, buried history, the water under our feet, and whatever’s living just below the surface.

Saturday runs all day and well into the night. The camera workshop kicks off at Afflux at 11:30 a.m., and shorts take over the screens there all afternoon. At 2 p.m. the Norton screens Frogtown, which took Best Florida Feature and the Audience Award at the Florida Film Festival. Then we head to Lake Worth Beach for a photo walk and a filmmaker happy hour. After that come two features at the Lake Worth Playhouse: Patrick Bresnan’s First They Came For My College and William Means’ Junkie. The Junkie After Party hits Propaganda at 9:30 p.m., and nobody involved is planning to leave early.

On Sunday, Afflux runs from 11:30 a.m. straight through to the Awards Ceremony and live editing session at 6:45 p.m. The day has seven shorts blocks and Kevin Contento’s The Moths and the Flame, just off its Berlinale Forum premiere. It also has Tropical Park, a Miami feature shot in one 85-minute take from the backseat of a car. At 2 p.m. the Norton screens Honeyjoon, a mother-daughter story about grief and arguing your way back to each other, with the galleries open to you afterward.

Grab one film or grab the whole weekend.
