Experience the elegance, precision, and intimate craft of ballet partnering with The Art of Partnering — New York City Ballet in Palm Beach. Presented by The Society of the Four Arts, this unique live event offers audiences an insider’s look at how ballet dancers create and perfect the pas de deux — the celebrated duet in classical ballet — under the guidance of NYCB’s Artistic Director, Jonathan Stafford.
Rather than being a traditional staged performance, this event is a dance workshop-style presentation where audiences observe real NYCB dancers rehearsing and performing excerpts from the iconic pas de deux section of George Balanchine’s Diamonds. Through this intimate format, guests gain a deeper appreciation of the technical skill, artistry, and partnership required for world-class ballet.
A rehearsal pianist accompanies the dancers, playing the lush score live to enhance the experience and bring out the full musicality of the choreography.
What Is Ballet Partnering and Pas de Deux ?
In ballet, a pas de deux (French for “step of two”) is a signature duet where two dancers — traditionally a male and a female — perform together in mutual harmony and technical precision. The pas de deux is both a technical highlight and a dramatic expression within classic ballet repertoire, designed to showcase connection, trust, and balance between partners.
