Mandel JCC Campus, Palm Beach Gardens

Community Wellness Day is about building a HEALTHY community. This fun-filled day is designed to inspire and motivate through interactive demos, hands-on activities, and guest speakers relating to health, safety, environmental and financial well-being.

Palm Beach Gardens Fire & Rescue’s Dave Terrana

Saving lives is a 24/7 responsibility.  Palm Beach Gardens firefighter Dave Terrana was in the right place at the right time while on vacation in Lake Placid, Florida. While driving on State Road 70, the car behind him suddenly swerved off the road, and slammed into a concrete pole.  As the car burst into flames, Terrana turned around and raced back up the road with his children and wife (who is also a Palm Beach Gardens firefighter!) in the car. As the car burned, Terrana pulled the bloody body of the driver to safety. He treated the driver’s injuries for 20 minutes until help arrived.

Jupiter Medical Center’s
 Dr. Barry Miskin

For Dr. Barry Miskin, being a doctor is not merely a profession; it is a calling. He goes above and beyond in his duties as a surgeon to better educate himself and those around him through various mentorship programs with local colleges and hospitals. He has been in practice for more than 25 years and is always looking for new ways to give back to his community; that is why he is intimately involved in free clinic programs and volunteers his time and expertise to those who need him most, both locally and in developing countries.

Corporate Heroes:

Florida Power and Light (FPL)

Late last year, Florida Power and Light (FPL) completed the buyout and closure of an old coal plant in Cedar Bay. FPL is also in the process of buying a second coal plant in Indiantown. Once FPL shuts down both plants, 1.5 million tons of annual carbon dioxide emissions will no longer be polluting the air. Meanwhile. FPL’s SolarNow program is adding solar trees throughout South Florida to help create new sources of clean energy.
