The Society of the Four Arts announces the biggest season in the organization’s history, with more than 500 arts and cultural programs being offered in 2016-2017. Highlights include: two art exhibitions “When Modern Was Contemporary” and “A Shared Legacy: Folk Art In America”; a new lecture series “The Founders and Us: The Relevance of Our Origins” with noted historians such as David McCullough, Ron Chernow and Gordon Wood; 20 live performances from musicians such as Sir James Galway, the Vienna Boys Choir and Danú; the ever-popular O’Keeffe Speaker Series presenting actor Jim Carter (“Downton Abbey”), journalist Clarissa Ward (CNN) and many more; Book signings and appearances from New York Times best-selling authors Stuart Woods, Emilie Richards and Andrew Gross; a Skype event for teens with author and cybersecurity expert Cory Doctorow; and more than 80 free children’s programs. In addition, the Garden Club of Palm Beach will welcome lifestyle celebrity Martha Stewart as their annual speaker in February before holding their widely anticipated biennial flower show in the Four Arts galleries in April.

The Society of the Four Arts is a nonprofit cultural organization founded in 1936 with a mission to inspire and engage people through the presentation of outstanding artistic programs. From November through April, the Four Arts offers hundreds of events including concerts, art exhibits, workshops, films, children’s programs and more. Located along the Intracoastal Waterway in Palm Beach, the ten-acre campus includes a performance hall, art gallery, state-of-the-art lifelong learning center, a library and children’s library and beautiful sculpture gardens. Organized by the American Federation of Arts and the Neuberger Museum of Art, Purchase College, SUNY. With works by 52 of the 20th century’s most influential artists, this exhibit illuminates the artistic transformations that took place in the U.S. during the first half of the 20th century.

The exhibition is drawn from the Barbara L. Gordon Collection and is organized and circulated by Art Services International, Alexandria, Virginia. The exhibition offers a stunning presentation of American folk art made primarily in rural areas of New England, the Midwest, and the South between 1800 and 1925. The exhibition showcases more than 60 works by some of the most admired 19th-century American artists.
