Founded in 1990, the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College (CCS Bard) is a graduate program, research center, and exhibition space dedicated to the study of exhibition practices in contemporary art. It is home to the Hessel Museum of Art, a 17,000 square foot contemporary art museum which is currently celebrating its tenth anniversary with an extensive renovation and expansion. This summer CCS Bard presents Invisible Adversaries, a group exhibition of works from the Marieluise Hessel Collection (on view through September 18). Inspired by a 1976 VALIE EXPORT science fiction film, it extends the film’s themes of feminism and alienation into a survey of Export’s influence on a new generation of artists. Also on view through October 30 is Tony Oursler: The Imponderable Archive, the first-ever public view of Oursler’s exhaustive personal collection of objects and documents relating to the history of the occult and spiritualism.
