he Palm Beach Symphony begins the 2015-1016 season on Monday, December 7th with its first concert at The Society of the Four Arts. Artistic & Music Director, Ramón Tebar, will conduct the orchestra in the season opening concert honoring the legendary Spanish cellist, Pablo Casals. The concert was specifically designed by Tebar for this intimate hall and features Israeli-American guest artist Amit Peled, a cellist of profound artistry and charismatic stage presence. Peled will be performing on Pablo Casals’ restored 1733 Matteo Gofriller cello, considered one of the most valuable in the world.

Back for his sixth season as Artistic and Music Director, Maestro Tebar has created a diverse season with musical programming that offers different styles, soloists and composers and designed specifically for each performance location. The program for this first concert with Peled includes Handel’s Sonata in G minor, Bruch’s Kol Nidrei, Op. 47 (arr. for solo cello & strings by Volkmar Fritsche), Popper’s Tarantella, Op. 33, Casals’ Song of the Birds, Haydn’s Cello Concerto in C, and Bloch’s Prayer.

“This will be our grandest season to date and I’m proud to start with such a special concert,” said internationally acclaimed conductor, Ramón Tebar. “Amit is skillfully talented and a captivating performer known for breaking down barriers, which is exactly the aim for our concert series this season.”

The Palm Beach Symphony will also host an evening with Amit Peled on Saturday, December 5th at Benjamin Hall in Palm Beach Garden that is free and open to the public. This world-renowned cellist will present a special lecture, “Journey to my Jewishness,” sharing his journey from a small kibbutz in Israel to finding his identity as an Israeli Jewish musician through the music of composer Ernest Bloch. Peled will perform pieces by Bruch and Bloch, accompanied by piano, as a preview to his concert performance with the Palm Beach Symphony. Guests who would like to attend the lecture may reserve a seat by calling 561-655-2657.

General admission tickets for the Palm Beach Symphony’s Homage to Pablo Casals concert are $45 and are on sale directly through The Society of the Four Arts’ box office at 561-655-7226 or at www.fourarts.org.
