An important installation, Encounter, by sculptor Colleen Rudolf, will be on display a the Wolf Conservation Center in South Salem. The work, showing a confrontation between a wolf and a dog symbolizes the interface between nature and the domesticated world, between the wild and the tamed.

The artist notes, “As the modern day dog is a descendent of the wolf, I am interested in the meeting of the two. What do evolution and the process of domestication mean for all of us? What is it like to encounter a former version of oneself? How do we to communicate?

By describing muscle tension and body language, these sculptures present a moment of decision. The imagined outcome can reveal as
much about our own understanding of communication as it does about the nature of this specific encounter.”
