312 Clematis Street in Downtown West Palm Beach will host a dramatic and moving multi-media art exhibition beginning Feb. 21 through Feb. 23 that speaks to the anatomy of the human spirit through the photographic, sculptural and illustrative arts. Each year, thousands of children are born with rare orthopedic birth defects. Some of these disabilities are so severe that most doctors say the only option is amputation. However, one local doctor decided to focus his practice on finding a pathway to a more comfortable and normal future for his patients.
Over the past 27 years, Dr. Dror Paley has developed more than 100 surgical procedures for bone and soft tissue reconstruction of congenital, developmental and post-traumatic limb disorders and innovative limb lengthening procedures to avoid amputation. Prior to Paley’s methods, the only available treatment for many congenitally short and deformed limbs was amputation of the limb and prosthetic fitting. These methods pioneered over a lifetime of work by Paley offer patients a viable alternative to amputation and help restore a normal life.
To help further the reach of the Paley Foundation’s medical mission, the Paradigm Shift art exhibit will welcome visitors to view compelling photographic images of photographer Gregory Ross and selected images from his collection, many of which were taken while accompanying Paley and the Paley Foundation Medical Mission Team to Haiti and Nicaragua. Mr. Ross will be signing his first book of photography entitled “Faces: Telling the Stories that Make a Difference” during the weekend exhibit. Accompanying the photography exhibition will be the medical illustrations and x-ray art of artist Pamela Ross. Each illustration of the step-by-step, limb saving surgical procedure developed by Paley brings a sense of beauty and harmony of the anatomy of the human body. In keeping with the theme of Paradigm Shift, the kinetic sculptures in stainless steel of international designer, Ralfonso, will also be on exhibit.
“Dr. Paley has spent his career not only being a tireless researcher and ground breaking pioneer, but a supreme advocate for his patients and their future,” said Raphael Clemente, executive director of the West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority (DDA). “This art exhibit, Paradigm Shift, provides visuals for the work and innovation The Foundation has done to better the lives of children and adults around the world.”
Paradigm Shift will host an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m., where attendees will enjoy complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres, meet Paley and the exhibition artists, and enjoy a live performance by Emmy Award winning musical artist, Kat Epple.
