South Florida’s art world just got bigger. From Miami to Palm Beach, old friends and new flocked to NSU’s Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale to welcome Bonnie Clearwater as the museum’s new Director and Chief Curator. Five hundred guests attended the museum’s End of Summer party that also celebrated the 2013 South Florida Cultural Consortium exhibition.

Guests mixed and mingled amid the art, and also enjoyed cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and live music. Among the attendees were: Nova Southeastern University President and CEO, Dr. George L. Hanbury and his wife Jana; Miami collector Marty Margulies, Miami-Dade County Cultural Affairs Director Michael Spring, Museum of Art Board of Governors Chairman David Horvitz and Museum of Art Board members Stanley Goodman and wife Pearl Goodman, artist Francie Bishop Good, Bonnie Barnett, Gene Stevens, Linda Tufo, Lisa Marie Browne, Wayne Gilmore, Laurie Wynn, Ken Brown and Miles Forman; artists Leah Brown, Naomi Fisher, Adler Guerrier, David Rohn, Magnus Sigurdarson and Augustina Woodgate; Miami gallerists Brook and Emerson Tyler-Dorsch, David Castillo, Anthony Spinello, and Carol Jazzar, Books & Books owner Mitchell Kaplan, Palm Beach Art Economist publisher Bruce Helander and Norton Museum Photography Curator Tim Wride.

The Museum of Art’s 2013-2014 season includes an exciting roster of exhibitions, events and educational programs. The fall exhibition season kicks off on October 12 with the acclaimed exhibition, Against the Grain featuring installations, sculptures, furniture and objects by leading contemporary artists and designers that challenge traditional uses of wood. Coinciding with the opening is a lecture by the exhibition’s curator, Dr. Lowery Stokes Sims of the Museum of Arts and Design, NY. On October 19, the Museum of Art will premiere Roman Vishniac: Rediscovered , a major survey organized by the International Center for Photography examining the career of the renowned photographer known for producing the most widely recognized record of Jewish life in Europe between the World Wars. Spirit of Cobra, opening on November 8, explores the roots and influences of the radical post-war European art movement. Organized with the Cobra Museum in the Netherlands, it highlights the Museum of Art’s exceptional Cobra collection, which is the largest in the United States. The Museum of Art is also co-organizing with the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia and Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, NY, the first major retrospective of the American painter William Glackens that will open in February.

The museum’s dynamic AutoNation Academy of Art + Design, offers year-round classes for children, teens and adults taught by professional artists. Registration is now open for all fall programs. Located in the heart of Downtown Fort Lauderdale’s arts and culture district, the Museum of Art is part of Nova Southeastern University, and shares the academic resources of the nation’s ninth largest, not-for-profit institution in the nation.
