The Patty & Jay Baker Naples Museum of Art celebrates its 12th season in 2011-12 with a spectacular, wide-ranging line-up featuring work by Edgar Degas, Louise Nevelson, Steve Tobin and many others.

The museum opens for the season on Saturday, October 1.

 

2011-12 SEASON EXHIBITIONS

 

The monumental nature-based sculpture of iconoclastic artist Steve Tobin will be showcased this fall in Steve Tobin’s Natural History, the artist’s first career retrospective. Tobin gained international acclaim in 2004 with the installation of his Trinity Root near Ground Zero in Lower Manhattan, the first and only art memorial near the 9/11 site.

 

The museum will mark the 50th anniversary of the Studio Glass movement in American art this season with Evolution/Revolution, an exquisite assortment of work from the leading glass artists of the past half century.

 

An exclusive show of work by American sculptor Louise Nevelson will open in January, complementing the museum’s recent acquisition of the installation Dawn’s Forest. Louise Nevelson will include a variety of work from throughout Nevelson’s career, ranging from massive wall pieces to more intimate wood sculptures.

 

Groundbreaking Spanish artist Manolo Valdés will be featured in a stunning retrospective of his provocative paintings and sculpture.

The captivating exhibition Edgar Degas: The Private Impressionist will offer an insightful, personal look at the life and work of the French master. It opens October 1.

Other exhibitions include: Prendergast to Pollock, a singular survey of American modernism that complements the museum’s permanent collection; Memories of World War II, featuring iconic photos from the archives of the Associated Press; Juan Genovés, a retrospective exhibition of work by one of Spain’s best-known contemporary artists; the return of Olga Hirshhorn’s The Mouse House; and much more.

 

A full schedule of related museum lectures will also be presented in Daniels Pavilion.

 

The Naples Museum of Art is open Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday from noon-4 p.m. from October 1 through June 30, 2012. General admission is $8 for adults and $4 for students. Admission from January 24 through March 25 is $12 for adults and $6 for students.

 

 

Complimentary docent-guided tours are presented at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and at 1 p.m. on Sunday from October through May.
