The Colony Theatre | Miami New Drama presents AFTER ORLANDO

An evening of short plays in response to the shooting at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida

 

AFTER ORLANDO is an international theatre action including over fifty playwrights from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Africa and Australia. The Miami presentation will include short plays presented by 7 local theatre companies and 2 brand-new short plays written by local playwrights. AFTER ORLANDO will be free and open to the public and will take place Monday, November 7th at 8:00pm at the Colony Theatre 1040 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach, FL 33139.

 

Lobby Doors will open at 7:00pm to a poetry writing activation hosted by O, Miami as a part of their 102 Heartbeats program dedicated to remembering the victims of the attack one poem at a time. The Project [theatre] is also creating a lobby installation for the event. The evening will then continue inside the theatre where the short plays will be performed. After the readings, the audience will be invited onstage to join in dance.

 

Miami New Drama has partnered with local theatre organizations to pay artistic tribute to the victims of the Orlando tragedy. Led by Michael Yawney, presenting companies include Villain Theater, Lost Girls Theater , O, Miami, The Project [theatre], Mad Cat Theatre Company, Miami Theater Center, Mangrove Creative Collective, FIU Theatre,  and Island City Stage.

 

The plays that will be presented include works by Matthew Paul Olmos, Deborah Zoe Luafer, and Anders Lustgarten as well as new plays by local playwrights Juan C. Sanchez and Vanessa Garcia. The plays will be directed by Andie Arthur, Jessica Farr, Margaret M. Ledford, Michael Leeds, Peter Mir, Malia Nicolini, and Michael Yawney. (See below for a full list of plays).

 

Miami New Drama Artistic Director Michel Hausmann says, “We come together as a community to process the horrible events that still haunt us, and we do it in the only way we know how; by creating theater and celebrating life.”

 

AFTER ORLANDO is presented in association with Missing Bolts Productions Inc. (Blair Baker & Zac Kline artistic directors) and NoPassport Theatre Alliance and Press (Caridad Svich, fonder) Plays have been specifically written and curated in response to this tragic event and will be read at over 30 venues across the country and in the UK throughout the fall.
