Basquiat: The Unknown Notebooks closes this Sunday, August 23 at the Brooklyn Museum. Eight rarely seen notebooks created by Jean-Michel Basquiat between 1980 and 1987 that have never before been presented to the public form the core of the exhibition. The exhibition features 160 unbound notebook pages, filled with the artist’s handwritten texts and sketches, along with thirty related paintings, drawings, and mixed-media works drawn from private collections and the artist’s estate.

The show will travel to the High Museum of Art Atlanta, Georgia from February 28 to May 29, 2016 and to the Pérez Art Museum Miami, Florida from August 8 to October 23, 2016.

The exhibition has been organized for the Brooklyn Museum by Dieter Buchhart, independent curator and Basquiat scholar, and Tricia Laughlin Bloom, former Associate Curator of Exhibitions, Brooklyn Museum. b0a65eca-43b2-4275-895e-a6cdfc1c32dc
