Hosted in Denver, the Biennial of the Americas is an international festival of ideas, art and culture featuring art exhibitions, public installations and performances by international artists, panel discussions showcasing leaders from throughout the Americas, a public pavilion and a free Friday evening festival. The most inspiring artists, innovators and experts will explore the theme “NOW!” examining today’s exceptional times in the Western Hemisphere. Below are highlights of media events, free festivals and community-wide arts and cultural celebrations during the opening week. The 2015 Biennial will promote action and inspire critical thinking through a combination of innovative workshops, world-class symposia, art exhibitions, and cultural programming.

Press Events:

  • July 14, 11:00 a.m. at Biennial Pavilion (1550 Wewatta St.): Opening Media Press Conference with Governor John Hickenlooper (Pick up press credentials at this event). Prior to this press conference, at 9:30 am, media are invited to walk through a special preview of the opening exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
  • July 15, 12:00-1:30 p.m. at Commons Park (2101 15th St.): Core Reading in Marcela Armas’sImplant installation. An event to celebrate Marcela Armas’s installation Implant. A geologist will read the rock samples that have been extracted from the earth on the site for clues to the history of Denver, both recent and prehistoric.
  • July 15, 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Great Hall, Jeppesen Terminal, Denver International Airport: A special event created for Denver International Airport, with members of the Montbello Warriors Community Drill Team who have worked with artist Erick Meyenberg to choreograph a new routine for the dramatic space of the Great Hall in the main Jeppesen Terminal. These talented young people from neighborhoods near the airport will move all around the space, filling it with color and the sound of their voices and stomping feet.
  • July 17, 11:00 am at the Galleria right outside the Sewell Ballroom (at the Denver Center For the Performing Arts): Press Event with Denver Mayor Michael Hancock and several other Mayors from across the Americas on Biennial themes, as well as celebration of weekend public festivals and events.
