The Smithsonian American Art Museum celebrates the vision and creativity of Americans with artworks in all media spanning more than three centuries. The Renwick Gallery, the museum’s branch for craft and decorative arts, is currently closed for renovation. Its Second Empire-style building, a National Historic Landmark, was designed by architect James Renwick Jr. in 1859 and completed in 1874. It is located steps from the White House in the heart of historic federal Washington, at Pennsylvania Avenue and 17th Street N.W.
