The gorgeous Church of St. Ignatius Loyola, which has hosted Upper East Side Roman Catholics for generations, has become one of the city’s most important venues for classical music. With it’s soaring, opulent interior, filled with paintings and marble columns, its impressive Mander organ, and its committed Artistic Director, L. Scott Warren, the church’s music program, “Sacred Music in a Sacred Space” is carving out a reputation as one of New York’s finest music programs.

It’s annual Christmas concerts, “Heavenly Light” features the choir and orchestra of St. Ignatius Loyola, the Parish Community Choir and the Children’s Choirs, as well as soloists Wendy Baker, Andrew Fuchs and Enrico Lagasca. The program includes pieces by Bach, Gabrieli, Adam and Biebl. Concerts will be held on December 14 at 3 p.m. and December 17 at 7. (for further information check out www.smssconcerts.org).
