HIGHLIGHTS OF 2015–2016 SEASON ANNOUNCED

Solo Exhibitions for Shannon Ebner, John Miller, and Ryan Sullivan

Demonstrate ICA Miami’s Commitment to Providing an International Platform for Innovative Emerging Artists and Experimental Practices

2015-16 SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

Ryan Sullivan

April – August 2015

In the artist’s first institutional solo exhibition, Ryan Sullivan’s (b. 1983) works demonstrate the critical importance of painting today. This new group of Sullivan’s vivid, densely material large-scale paintings poses questions about the relationship between image and object, and between gesture and process. The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue published by ICA Miami, due for release in winter 2015.

Shannon Ebner

October – December 2015

This exhibition presents the first comprehensive selection of works from Ebner’s ongoing series “Black Box Collision A,” which, since 2012, has seen the artist photographing the letter “A” mined from the vestiges of sign, advertisement, message, and other modes of visual communication. As the first museum exhibition to survey Ebner’s series, ICA Miami’s presentation demonstrates the artist’s efforts to build a catalogue of images, and to locate them at the intersection of the graphic and photographic. The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue, due to be released in fall 2016.

John Miller

January – April 2016

This mid-career survey brings together more than 50 works by the conceptual artist in a range of mediums—including new large-scale sculptures, paintings, and installations. Perhaps best known for his monochromatic gold and brown reliefs, Miller has consistently addressed issues of Americana and urbanism in his interdisciplinary work. ICA Miami’s presentation will explore in particular Miller’s examination of the legacy of Minimalism and art historical conventions in the presentation of art. The exhibition will be accompanied by a catalogue, due to be released in spring 2017.

ICA MIAMI INAUGURAL EXHIBITIONS

Andra Ursuta: As I Lay Drying

December 3, 2014 – March 15, 2015

As I Lay Drying presents new and recent works by the New York-based artist, whose sculpture and installation engages with the psychology of power and modernism and is rooted deeply in

personal history. Amidst the gridded architecture of ICA Miami’s Atrium Gallery, Ursuta has created a dramatic site-specific installation, involving platforms that elevate the works above the ground floor, reconfiguring the viewing experience. Among the works on view are Soft Power 1 and 2 (2013), monumental inflatable fists made of patchwork-quilted comforters, whose fabrication and motion reflect upon the complex histories of patriotism and protest.

Pedro Reyes: Sanatorium

December 3, 2014 – March 15, 2015

An ongoing performative project that mixes art and psychology, Sanatorium takes the form of a transient clinic, in which receptionists and “therapists” trained by the artist, help visitors with their individual needs. Reyes’s therapies leverage a range of methods—from Gestalt psychology, psychodrama, and hypnosis, to theater warm-up exercises, conflict-resolution techniques, and trust-building games. First presented at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in 2011, and radically adapted with each subsequent iteration, Sanatorium at ICA Miami reflects the region’s dynamic landscape and community.
