DeLand, Florida — The Paintings of John Mellencamp will open to the public at The Museum of Art – DeLand at 100 N. Woodland Blvd. in downtown DeLand on Friday, October 10, 2014. The exhibition will contain approximately 50 oil and mixed media paintings, showcasing recent works of art never before exhibited at other institutions. This show will remain on view until December 28, 2014.

Who: John Mellencamp, who has been painting as a means of self-expression since he was a young man. He attended the Art Student League in the early 80’s where he was inspired by early 20th-century modernists including Walt Kuhn, Chaim Soutine, and particularly by the German Expressionists Max Beckmann, and Otto Dix.

What: The exhibition The Paintings of John Mellencamp will be Mellencamp’s first art exhibition in Florida. Past exhibitions were at the Butler Institute of American Art in 2013 and at the Tennessee State Museum in 2012.

Where & When: Museum of Art – DeLand Downtown 100 N. Woodland Blvd., DeLand, Florida. Exhibition opens October 10 at 5 p.m. and continues through December 28, 2014.
