Denise Bibro Fine Art, 529 W. 20th St. 4W, is pleased to announce Barry Nemett’s first solo show with the gallery, Expanding the Grid: Italy & France, on view November 21, 2013 through January 11, 2014.
Nemett employs a method of layering that is the foundation for his complicated landscapes. Contrary to an initial assessment, Nemett’s complex landscapes do not depict a single piece of scenery. Merging directly observed paintings from various locations, the artist creates an intense visionary panorama of his own, resulting in depictions of places that do not exist. By weaving together these painted panels, grids appear that reflect the passage of time and the range of beauty.
Barry Nemett has exhibited his artwork in various museums and galleries throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and Africa, including Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art (Japan); Alpha Gallery (Boston); Andre Zarre Gallery (NYC); Baltimore Museum of Art; Casa das Artes Criacao Ambiente Utopias (Africa); Guilin Museum of Art (China); Delaware Museum of Art; Ethan Cohen Gallery (NYC); Georgetown Court Artists Space (Washington, D.C); ICE Gallery (NYC); Institute of International Education (NYC); ISA Gallery (Italy); National Academy Museum (NYC); New Jersey State Museum; and Rochefort-en-Terre Museum of Art (France). Nemett currently holds the position of Chair of the Painting Department at the renowned Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA).
